Palm Sunday is the sixth Sunday of Lent, the last Sunday before Easter, and the beginning of Holy Week. On this Sunday, the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is commemorated.

In the Catholic Church, this holiday is called “Dominica in Palmis de passione Domini” and is associated with the liturgical color red. In the Protestant liturgy, Palm Sunday is known as “Palmarum” and is associated with the color violet.

What happened on Palm Sunday?

As reported by the Evangelists Matthew, Luke, and John, Jesus went with His disciples to Jerusalem for the Jewish Passover. When they came to the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of His disciples to look for a donkey and its colt that they could bring to Him.

The disciples completed this mission by placing their clothes on the back of the colt. Jesus sat on it and rode into Jerusalem. Along the way, more and more people gathered to meet Jesus. Some spread their clothes in front of Him, while others cut branches from palm trees and scattered them on the road. They hailed Him with joyful acclamations:
