Preparing for the driving test should be well planned. Until you hold your unrestricted driver’s license in your hands, many different steps are required. First, you must complete the emergency assistance course. There are many good online learning programs with excellent study materials available. Although we don’t offer a learning program or study materials, you can rent a vehicle from us for the driving test or for driving lessons after the test. We have compact and practical vehicles specifically for learner drivers, suitable for taking the practical driving test or for driving lessons. You can rent a vehicle from us starting at CHF 30. Long-term rentals are also possible, with monthly costs ranging from CHF 400 to CHF 800, depending on the chosen vehicle. All our vehicles are fully insured, and there is no mileage limit.
The Initial Steps:
The Emergency Assistance Course
First, you must complete the emergency assistance course to be eligible to apply for a learner’s permit and be admitted to the theoretical driving test. During this course, you must pay attention to specific points.
The emergency assistance certificate is valid for 6 years.

After completing the emergency assistance course, you can apply for the learner’s permit. You must fill out the application form completely and truthfully and submit it.
The following documents must be included:
– An eye test – conducted by an optometrist or doctor (the test is valid for two years).
– A certificate from the emergency assistance course.
– Two color passport photos.
When submitting your application for the first time, you must do so in person. Please bring your original identity card or passport and the emergency assistance course certificate with you.
Theoretical Exam
After registering, you will receive login details for online registration from the relevant Road Traffic Office. The quality of study materials is crucial. There are numerous providers, so make sure to use learning programs that include official questions from the Road Traffic Office. Most providers offer the option to simulate real theoretical driving tests.
Practical Driving Test
After passing the theoretical exam, you can focus on the actual driving test. The greatest challenge lies in the practical driving test. Mental preparation is also essential.
Proper preparation in the form of driving lessons is crucial to pass the practical driving test. During the practical test, you must demonstrate the technical knowledge required for safe vehicle operation, as well as adequate knowledge of environmentally conscious and energy-efficient driving practices and the ability to apply them practically.

How much does the practical driving test cost?
In Switzerland, the cost of the practical driving test ranges from CHF 120 to CHF 160. Prices vary significantly by canton. In some cantons, you can cancel or reschedule the test up to 4 days before the test date. If you cancel later or don’t show up, you will still be charged the full fee.
How long does the practical driving test take?
The practical driving test typically takes about 50 minutes.
Driving school prices
Driving school prices vary depending on the driving instructor and range from CHF 70 to CHF 100. Some driving instructors offer combo packages at reduced prices. It’s worth comparing options, as experience shows that the driver’s skill, not just the price, is crucial.
If you don’t pass the driving test on the first attempt, you can retake it after a waiting period.
The third retake is only possible if a driving instructor confirms in writing that you are ready for the test.
If you fail the driving test three times, you will need a traffic psychology evaluation certifying your suitability for road traffic.
