Being a novice driver is not always easy.
As a novice driver, you are required to complete a mandatory further training course, also known as a WAB course. The previous 2-day WAB course has been optimized and consolidated into a single day since January 1, 2020. All participants should complete the course with their own vehicle. If you do not have your own vehicle available, you can rent a vehicle from Seeland Mobility. Our rental prices start at CHF 45.-, and we offer affordable rates for young drivers.
Obtaining a probationary driver’s license before December 31, 2019:
Within the three years, further training must be completed. The previous WAB 1 or the new further training day applies. Starting from January 1, 2020, the further training day is now simply referred to as the WAB course.
Obtaining a probationary driver’s license after January 1, 2020:
After receiving the probationary driver’s license, novice drivers must complete their WAB course within 12 months following the successful driver’s test.
Course Content:
A mixture of theory and practical vehicle components

Cornering
Why WAB Courses?
The risk of accidents is higher among young people and novice drivers. Therefore, there was a need for action, and the legislator decided to assess the first practical experiences and driving behavior of novice drivers before granting them a permanent driver’s license. The required WAB course is intended to help prevent traffic accidents.
Who is affected?
On December 1, 2005, the regulations for probationary driver’s licenses came into effect. All those who received their probationary driver’s license after that date are affected. To obtain an unrestricted driver’s license, the holder must participate in the two-phase training for 2 days within these 3 years (1 day starting on January 1, 2020).
What happens if I complete the WAB further training too late?
If you do not participate in the WAB course after the deadline has expired, you are not allowed to drive anymore! In this case, you will lose your driver’s license and must start the entire process from scratch: apply for a new learner’s license and retake all exams. Exceptions apply for justified requests. In some cases, a grace period of three months may be granted.
Course Language
The courses are conducted in Swiss German dialect – optionally also in High German.
