Easter
Easter (Latin “pascha,” from Hebrew “pessach”) is the highest Christian holiday of the year, commemorating in a special way the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The origin of the name “Easter” is not entirely clear. It may possibly derive from the Gallo-Frankish “Austro” (“Ausro”), meaning “dawn,” which could allude to Easter morning or the pagan spring festival. From this word, it later evolved into Old English as “Ēastre” (“Ēastre”) and in Old High German as “Åst(a)ra.”
